Congregational Church Grafton, MA

Many Town’s have beautiful Town Common’s, and we believe that Grafton’s is one of the most beautiful.  In addition to the many  mansions and historical buildings on the common, there is this magnificent Congregational Church.

The church parking lot was is need of a new design.   The size of it was inadequate for the needs of the church and it needed new pavement.  This parking lot is also important to the community as it is  made available for special Town events, which are held on the Town Common.

The design difficulties included a somewhat steep topography,  neighboring homes just down hill from the parking lot, and limited space in which to work.  Also, the church was planning an new elevator in order to make the entire church handicap accessible.  This design had to meet the approval of the

We were able to solve these design challenges and designed a larger, paved parking lot with an approach lane for drop off by the new entrance.  In order to address the drainage and storm-water management issues we designed a stone lined detention area just below the proposed parking lot.  The drainage runoff that used to be a problem for the residents just below this site, now flows into this detention area.  The runoff that leaves the detention area is now  connected to the street drainage system and in no longer a problem for nearby homes.
